Take a Stroll Down Memory Lane....

Kealan Patrick Burke knows what keeps you up at night. Those little "What if?" fears that plague us all. Not the "may be" monsters of childhood, but those monstrous "maybes" that lurk in the adult world.
In MEMORY LANE, a standalone prologue to the first novel in the long awaited Cassandra Quinn series, NIGHT FALLS ON MEMORY LANE, coming out Summer 2015, he shows us one of them. And there are no maybes about it, as a small town finds it's collective memory lane is becoming a dead-end.

This short story is an implacable powerhouse of dawning horror, with a final line that will floor you.
And it's only the prologue!!!

My advice, if you haven't already read them, grab the Timmy Quinn series along with this gem, and prepare for when NIGHT FALLS......

A Great Story That That Will Leave You Waiting For the Forthcoming Novel NIGHT FALLS ON MEMORY LANE

With MEMORY LANE: A SHORT STORY, author Kealan Patrick Burke offers up a prequel to his forthcoming novel NIGHT FALLS ON MEMORY LANE: THE CASSANDRA QUINN SERIES BOOK ONE. Using his signature literate prose and deep vocabulary, Burke spins tale that is a slow-burn of paranoia in a well realized contemporary small town. The story ends without resolution or explanation, leaving those plot points to be addressed in the coming series. As a result the tale doesn’t quite work as a stand-alone story, which is fine because that isn’t its intent. In the roughly twenty-pages, though, there is more than enough to whet the reader’s appetite for the series to come, which is its real goal.

Memory lane.

A short prequel to a new book by KPB that I've been looking forward to for a while now. What happens when the residents of a small town suffer from headaches and start to lose their memories? Danged if I know, I'm still waiting for the book! This was one heck of a spooky, skin crawling start. This promises to be a great one. Yep, I'd recommend this story and author.

Amazing depth of information

Amazing depth of information. My personal interest was the Industrial Revolution in Japan just before World War II. Rather specific. Its coverage of that single topic was stunning. This book, as its title says, does not limit itself to the initial industrial revolution in England, Europe, and the United States. It looks at individual countries around the world. It goes right up to the current day and to the reality that the Industrial Revolution even in its mechanical manifestation is still going on.

Excellent Introduction To Brewing Science

In the interest of full disclosure, I was a student of Dr. Lewis at UC Davis so I might be partial to his take on brewing. Nonetheless, this is an excellent distillation of the authors decades of research and practical experience in all levels of brewing from craft brewing to regional breweries to large national breweries. The authors effectively screen out much of the minutiae that could clog an introductory text. Likewise, the authors are cognizant that many of the readers of the book will lack extensive science backgrounds and make it very accessible to audiences with some minor science training.

If you are interested in understanding the underlying science of brewing this is the book for you. Skip the George Fix book on brewing, it's full of errors and lacks an overall unifying narrative. Lewis and Young are both biochemistry Ph.D.s and have conducted massive amounts of research into all the areas that this book covers, yet they couple this research with a practical framework that makes it suitable for practicing brewers not just academics.

Great book for brewers wanting to know more

This book gets deep into the science of brewing. If you are a brewer that wants to know more "why" than "how", you will get your money's worth. The drawings for illustrations are well placed, but some may be better with pictures. While most of the science goes over your head unless you have a chemistry background, it is written in a way that you can still grasp the concepts presented. I may read this a second time just to reinforce these. The other thing that I like is it not only the chemistry and science part, but brewing equipment (for BREWERIES, not homebrew equipment!) is covered in great detail in its function and purpose as well. I recently took a tour of New Glarus Brewing and noticed this book on the shelf of the QA/Lab guy's office. A well-written advanced brewer's book.

Tired of non technical, outdated, overly simplistic brewing books from homebrew shops? Then this is your book. Great detail (yikes I for got my O-chem from college) for the brewer or homebrewer who wants to know more about brewing.

I got this book, or it's precursor, in the 70s, loved it but lost it. I needed a follow up on it and this came very quickly after i ordered it. I always loved the flavor of the writing by Mr Glover, a great place to start for beginners. I never got to play well but I enjoyed the help the book gave me, and needed an excuse to play harp.

THE classic instructional text, for a reason

As a 16-year-old in the fall of 1974, determined to learn how to play blues harmonica, I stumbled across this book purely by chance in the local mall. I picked it up along with my first Hohner Marine Band harmonica. Now, almost 40 years later, as a pro player and teacher, I'm still in awe of Glover's achievement. He may not get every single lick right--his tab system raised as many questions for me back then as it answered--but he DID get the instrument's great tradition exactly right. In his inimitable hipster's voice, with a cool gruffness that makes him seem like every teen wannabe's knowing, disreputable Kerouackian uncle, he hips you to all the Big Names, tells you why they're important, what they're ABOUT, and makes you feel as though you're setting off on a serious, soulful enterprise. This book will inspire you and comfort you; it'll challenge you, too. Are you paying attention? This is your roadmap. It's an ancient roadmap, but that's okay, because the music is about all that old stuff, too. Blues harmonica is a sorcerer's art; a little attitude, a little improvisational juice, a dash of mumbo jumbo, is just as important as sober rationalism. Thanks to YouTube, young players these days have infinitely more instructional material to choose from, and some of it is very good indeed. But nobody--not Gindick, not Barrett, not Gussow (!)--has captured the feel of the music and its warm, sometimes gruff mentorship process more perfectly, in the form of a written voice, than has Tony Glover in this book. Hi, readers! During my first year of college, I volunteered one night a week in the women's section of Cook County Jail in Chicago. As long as I live, I will never forget the women I met there and the ways they struggled to cope with incarceration. As I researched Three Nights Before Christmas, those women's stories stayed with me. How would it feel to be locked away and forgotten by society? And how would it feel to be released back into that society, especially at such a festive time of year?

I love writing about heroines with unusual careers, women who carve their place in male-dominated worlds--whether in the financial services industry (Playing It Close) or as an airline pilot (Tempting the Player). So when I got my contract to write for Montana Born Books, I knew I wanted to write about a female locomotive engineer. I had no idea at the time that she would also be a parolee who would fall for her arresting officer. Bringing Lacey and Austin together presented me with a huge challenge, but I've been so touched (and relieved!) by readers' responses.

A wonderful festive romance

2015 has seen Kat Latham become one of my go-to authors. I just know that when I pick one of her books up I’m not going to be left disappointed and Three Nights Before Christmas reinforces this.

"There's no officer here. No criminal. Just Austin and Lacey..."

I have to say I wasn’t quite sure how a romance between Lacey Gallagher and Austin Wilder would work; after all he played a part in her ending up spending three miserable years in prison, how do you go from that to lovers? But Kat Latham did make it work and crafted a wonderful festive romance focusing on forgiveness and understanding.

"...I see you, Lacey."

Perfectly paced, the romance was enchanting, steamy, emotional and Lacey and Austin were a couple to love. She’s no wallflower, her time inside may have ended her career as a successful train engineer but her strength of determination to move on with her life and start again was quite humbling, as was Austin’s realisations as to the mistakes and assumptions he may have made in the past.

"You're a dirty-minded sex-fiend."

If a festive feel-good, steamy read is what you’re looking for, then this ticks the boxes. And with Lacey’s brother and her lawyer featuring throughout, it’s onto Sarah Mayberry’s His Christmas Gift for me to see what lies in store for them.

Three Nights Before Christmas, by Kat Latham, is another wonderful example of her ability to wrap you up in a story and Christmas spirit. The characters, situations, and the sexual tension keep drawing you deeper and deeper into the novel. Lacey Gallagher, just out of prison and still reeling from loving and trusting the wrong man, is working at her family's tree farm at Christmas. Helping harvest trees on Forest Service land, she continues to run into Austin Wilder, the Forest Service officer who was instrumental in her drug conviction. Their initial interactions are heated due to their history, but it soon has an underlying sexual tension that cannot be ignored. Throw into the mix Christmas, an antique steam engine named Lucinda, and family dynamics and well, the story just gets better and better. As the steam engine gets put back together, so too does Lacey's life. The main characters are complex and interesting. And, meeting back up with Gabriel, Molly, and Josh, from Ms. Latham's book Bound To The Bachelor was an added bonus. Kat Latham has once again written a wonderful story that touches the heart and definitely excites the libido! I recommend this book highly and also her rugby romance novels also!

Lacey Gallagher has finally been released from prison after being convicted of a crime she didn’t really know she was involved in. Lacey had been an train engineer and got caught up with the wrong man. Her boyfriend had used her to traffic drugs but being caught with the package she couldn’t convince a jury she hadn’t known what was going on and her boyfriend Dave had testified it had all been her idea.

Austin Wilder was the officer that had arrested Lacey three years ago. When he runs into her after her release he immediately distrusts her and begins checking up on her quite often. When Austin has a problem with restoring a steam engine train before Christmas he turns to Lacey for help.

I have to admit I was a bit on the fence with this one all the way through. Lacey’s story was one that a lot of woman or even men in some cases could relate to, maybe not to the extent of prison time but in trusting someone so completely but being let down and ending up feeling used that I couldn’t help but wish the best for her.

Austin on the other hand seemed quite the jerk in the beginning of this. Even if Lacey had been completely guilty of her crime she had done her time and he really didn’t need to keep harassing her when she first was released. A part of me kept wondering why in the world Lacey would even be attracted to someone who couldn’t give her a bit of trust at all. I think I would’ve believed the attraction between the two more if Austin had come to Lacey saying ok you did your time let me help you get your life back and offer you a job working on this train and the relationship sparked from some sort of niceness on his part.

Also, I picked this one up thinking it was a small town Christmas cozy romance but it got a bit graphic in the sex and language. There’s romantic steamy and there’s erotic steamy and this one with the language and details fell more to the erotic side which isn’t necessarily bad but felt it should be mentioned as it isn’t overly obvious with the description or what one would expect from a cozy Christmas tale.
