Definitely Happy With This!
By a. rose
When we meet Sam Evans she is in the midst of a tragedy. As it often happens with tragedy, in the blink of an eye her entire life changes. She’s not quite sure that she can get through it all, but her sister Shawn, and Shawn’s best friend Jenna step up to care for her in the wake of the calamity.
This is a story about the bond between these three women and the bonds that they make because solidarity has kept them together through the toughest curves life has thrown at them to date. While it is a novella, it is jam packed with more than enough twists and turns to grasp and keep the attention.
I think what this story hits on most is hope. There will always be a silver lining. It’s a look at how family and friends who have turned themselves into family in our lives will really come through for us when the going gets tough. Other reviews talk of editing issues, and sure, there are definitely some things that could have used work on the grammatical end, but I gave my inner critic permission to suspend judgement and just enjoy the story for what it was. And I definitely wasn’t disappointed that I did.
I'm looking forward to reading the sequel and I'm keeping an eye on the author. I was happy with the escape that this story gave me from hectic holiday shopping and it provided a sweet cozy night in with my kindle app. Not much more that I could have asked for :)

Good things and bad things
By Kalipall
I received a copy of this book from Inked Rainbow Reads in return for an honest review.
I have to say I think this book failed to capitalize on the things it had going for it. It feels like a first book, to tell the truth. I believe I saw something in the book from the author saying what her debut novel was and where you could get it, but this is the first book I could find on Amazon. Truthfully, I think the book could stand to be rewritten. I liked the premise of the plot. I totally felt for Sam after her husband died, but even before he died, I got the feeling that she wasn't long for that relationship anyway. This clears the way for Jenna to come into the picture. And it explains why their relationship progresses so quickly. But honestly, I feel that this relationship should have slowed a bit and developed a little more slowly. It seemed rushed, and the feelings of both Sam and Jenna just seemed to all happen too quickly.
Then we have Shawn and Rebecca. Shawn is Sam's sister, and is the "out" lesbian, and therefore pariah, of the family. This provides an excellent reason for why Sam never felt able to explore any of her desires or leanings toward other women. Again, we have a relationship that seems to happen at lightning speed. Slow down and let me enjoy the two of them getting to know each other. The whole disagreement on their first date was almost incomprehensible to me. Shawn said she didn't want just a hook-up, and for some reason this to Rebecca meant that Shawn didn't want to have sex with her at all. But Shawn did want to have sex, she just didn't want it to be a one-night stand. Well if that's all you want, says Rebecca, then forget it, and stop playing me. What? Totally left me confused. And that doesn't even take into account that this part seemed like a totally new story. We had one story about Sam and Jenna, then in the middle of the book, we were in a new story that was about Shawn and Rebecca. It was essentially two books in one, but not enough time or plot or even development was given to either story.
That said, there were redeeming qualities to the book. Garrison made me like her characters. She drew me in to their stories. Her sex scenes were pretty darn hot. And she has an easy writing style that made it easy to keep turning pages. I see a lot of potential, but I think she needs to fine tune her plot development. I've got the second book in the series and it looks longer, so I'm hoping to see a lot of progression in her development as a story-crafter.

5 Stars story. 3 Stars editing = 4 Stars
By Renee DeNigris
5 Stars story. 3 Stars editing
Story – (minor Spoiler warning)
I was drawn into right way with tragic everyone doesn’t want to go through. This shows us how the two main protagonists (Sam and Jenna) falling in love. It was very sweet and believable. When they finally made love, it felt like real lovemaking. Not erotica or even porn. I loved how Garrison made funny joke over Sam’s first time lesbian making love scene.
(Spoiler!) Now, I did have a problem believing the second major sex scene with two minor characters of this book! Rebecca never had lesbian sex before. But during her first time, she knew very, very well how to do it. This scene felt it was from porn movie and very hard fast pace.
Editing – My nit picking!
I do realize Garrison is self-publish author. She needs help from a professional editor and beta readers. The story needs extra breaks between each scene. While reading scene it goes right into another scene with different place and characters. I was confused about whom and time what was happening. When there was a extra space between paragraphs it was during the wrong time. Special when protagonists are fighting. Yes, story does flow well at times, but paragraph layouts needs work. My big problem is Garrison used of ****Back to top as chapter title or instead of numbers. There is no reference why she used it. This just confused me. It could be my Kindle reader, but I don’t think so. Since this also happens in her sequel book, The Human Side.
All in all, Garrison’s New Beginnings is a fast and wonderful lesbian romance novel.
Note: The author provided her book for my honesty review.
