About the Author
Ryan Parrott was born in Bakersfield, California but spent they majority of his life growing up in Las Vegas. A graduate of Chapman University, Ryan had short films screen at both the Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals — eventually leading to a career in film and television. He has written for the NBC television series “Revolution”, IDW’s Star Trek and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as well as co-writing the series’ finale “Revolution: Endgame” and the New York Time’s best-seller “Batman: Gates of Gotham.”

As good or better than the film

This tie in comic has but one clear reason to exist: answering audience questions about how the city would cope with all the damage depicted in the film's climax. A lesser question answered is how the monsters would function in this world, which runs on very different logic from the show. It has a very simple foil too: the Rangers, given their own personal tragedies, could have turned out a lot worse. The new villains show that in ways Rita in the film couldn't. The film hints a future with Tommy in it. This gives the Rangers something to do until then. It could lead to an entire series happening between films, which is critical if Saban wants to stay competitive against Marvel. How the town reacts to Rangers being in it also reveals that this is definitely a world modeled after today, as opposed to an idealized 1990s. A good read, especially if you saw the film and were left hungry for more.

If you left the movie theater wanting more, this is a great way to get your post movie fix. The end of the comic definitely leaves you the same way, but still gives more character development. Must have if you liked the movie!

A superb, highly readable short book

Interesting, Educational and Enjoyable

A book to take on vacation or to be read quietly at home for all interested in
leadership experiences rarely found in literature today, as the reader is
constantly uplifted by a series of Civil War vignettes, which Paul Gilbert brings
alive with his unique, personal style of communication. Much of what Gilbert
writes also has application in the business world and in other professions.

Any serious student of military history sooner or later becomes enthralled
with the details of a particular conflict, forgetting that the real action often
takes place well behind the battle scenes where good and bad leadership is
at play by leaders who practice the trade of the Profession of Arms.

It is true that improvements in weaponry, and yes tactics to match the strategy
will invariably change the course of a battle and perhaps a war. But not all
forces in a conflict are equal, rarely so. To balance this disparity commanders
must be capable of employing enlightened leadership to modify the course of a
battle by skillfully using the experience, talent and insight of their subordinates.

Thus, sound leadership is the "x-factor in war," as the effective use of leadership
can tip the scales, even when all appears lost and any hope of victory has all but
evaporated.

Paul Gilbert, a gifted, penetrating writer, addresses in his twelve Civil War
chapters the sometimes forgotten tenet of winning in war by deftly emphasizing
how the use of leadership by Abraham Lincoln, J.E.B. Stuart, Ulysses S. Grant,
Robert E. Lee, and John Mosby, among others, changed the outcome of a battle,
sometimes ultimately affecting the conclusion of the war and finally how its
history would be written.

A great read to find out how to be the best leader in any organization!

I'm a Tourism Major, Business Minor at GMU and was required to get this book for one of my tourism classes. After reading it, I was so surprised it was never required for my minor in the School of Management. Lead Like A General was actually the ONLY study material in which I truly learned the how-to and value of becoming a great leader in any company or organization around the globe. It was interesting to realize that a glimpse at the historical events of the Civil War had so much to do with the management and leadership techniques of today's business world. Lessons taught by the often forgotten generals of the Civil War proved how important it was to never underestimate the power of innovative thinking, cooperative strategy, integrity, and having the confidence to really make an effort to know your teammates/co-workers to know how they function best to complete a task at hand. The most important thing I got from reading LLAG was the idea of momentum, how to start it, how to keep it going, and how much power that has in making your business successful. As a graduate I am already seeing the effects of positive momentum in my own work in the tourism industry. Out of all my classes and all my textbooks in college, I would say Lead Like A General is a MUST HAVE for any undergrad or person trying to get some insight into how to develop the very best of themselves in their field of work.

Enjoyable and Educational

I'll be quite honest in saying that as a college student, reading assignments are not something I am particularly excited or motivated to complete. However, I was assigned this book for one of my classes and found it extremely enjoyable. Just by the name I would not have picked it out for pleasure reading, but I found it to be an easy read while learning a great deal. I also am not a history buff, but found myself more interested in tactics and strategies used during the times of the Civil War.

I almost feel like I got a two for one deal! After I read this for class I decided to give it to my dad who enjoys reading history books on a regular basis. I was pretty sure he knew all there is too know about history, but after reading the book he told me he found it interesting and certainly stumbled upon facts and ideas that he had not known before..

Overall a great book! A+++

"Indeed a Masterpiece"

The front cover stated "Masterpiece" and indeed it was . It was well written , very descriptive and engaging from the first page to the very last. I thought it would take me a while to read it because of it's size.....but no I licked through this in a week and a half . I look forward to reading more from this author.

I watched the program and knew I wanted to have a copy of the book for my own to keep and re-read. Ordered it and I couldn't be more pleased. Deep, Original, Example-Rich, but also a bit Remote

This book was chosen for my undergrad thermo course for it's depth and originality, even if (as with most texts) use of it in teaching might benefit from providing alternate and simpler ways to introduce some of the key elements. Dr. Garrod is aware of contemporary developments on a variety of fronts, and hence provides handles that are absent in many of the texts currently available. More importantly, about HALF of the book consists of worked exercises. It has potential for both graduate and undergraduate applications, in which worked exercises and instructor material might be used to augment respectively the second and first halves of the book.

short scary story

I'm not sure whether this book was written prior to, or after Dracula, but the villain in this book reminded me a great deal of the Dracula character. I was able to read this entire book on a single flight from Washington D.C. to Florida. I enjoyed it. It also reminded me of The Twilight Zone television show because it's got that kind of creepy story line. I wonder if the television show drew inspiration from stories such as this.

Stem K is just right for kindergarten students. I will be teaching 4 year olds and Stem K is still great for this age group. If some of the activities are too difficult, I can teak them down. In looking at the book, my pre-kinder students will be able to understand the process and outcome of each activity. The activities also require students to think outside the box and this is very important in today's educational era.

Beautiful and Timeless Love Story

This story was a very sweet, very engaging, and very emotional story from start to finish! I read this book after reading Madeline Baker's Native American romance novel First Love, Wild Love. First thing's first, both books are great. But this book had more plot threads happening that tied up in a satisfying way than First Love, Wild Love did. I see First Love, Wild Love as a A-to-B love story. But Lakota Love Song was a love story with opening and closings in regards to concepts (Mato's vision) and character arcs (Shaun Randall).

Lakota Love Song is about a young woman named Kaylee who comes across a wounded Lakota warrior named Blue Hawk. She takes him into a nearby shack to dress and clean his wounds, despite the fact that her people and his people are at war. Blue Hawk is intrigued with her, mostly because he saw her once in a vision. When Blue Hawk attacks Kaylee's friend Randy, Blue Hawk threatens the young man's life, making Kaylee promise to return him to his people in exchange for Randy's life. During the time spent with Blue Hawk and the Lakota, Kaylee notices Blue Hawk's kindness and gentleness towards her, and they slowly discover feelings for one another, in the midst of constant strife between their people.

This story definitely had its tedious moments, like the detailed descriptions of the Native American way of life (which is okay in small amounts, but this book decided it wanted to be a textbook for a few pages instead of a novel) and the daily grind of an army recruit. But there were plenty of tender moments, sad moments, and intense moments. And the last quarter of the book was actually very well done! I was worried it would be like the last quarter of First Love, Wild Love, but thankfully it was not! Oh, and beware of repetition. Because this book and First Love, Wild Love are both about a Lakota male lead, the author practically copies and pastes plenty of details from one to the other, such as descriptions of the Black Hills (Paha Sapa), Crazy Horse, and the Sun Dance. That makes parts of the story skimmable. She did sneak a few new things, though, so there's that I guess.....

Would I read this book again? Sure! The love story was sweet and didn't rush itself. There were a lot of memorable moments, so I definitely recommend this to historical romance lovers!

Also...the ending was not something I would have predicted EVER. It's not a twist, but it's an event that almost takes place...scary!

I really loved this book. Not quite a 5 star read for reasons I will later explain.

Tales of native Americans are always heartbreaking for me. There is no happy ending for these people. It breaks my heart how this beautiful race of people were treated, and thrown into virtual extinction.

Don't get me wrong, this book does have a HEA for the h & H romantically but I just felt so depressed about Blue Hawks people, even he knew there was no future for Native Americans.

But anyway..

The first half of the book I liked best. I loved reading about what life was like living with the Lakotas. I was so glad the heroine chose her heart and decided to stay with Blue Hawk and his people (if only for a while).

Their love was beautiful, fated. He just lived and breathed her and she him.

They were both vigins and each others firsts, and I have to say this author deserves a tremendous amount of praise on how she handled it. She did it PERFECTLY. How? By not making a big deal about it. For example, in the first loving scene she says to him.."I've never.." and he says "neither have I.. we will find our way together." PERIOD! He's not a virgin because he was tormented, cold, insane, abused, scarred, an outcast.. nor is he overly religious or pious. He just was a virgin. Why is it that authors nowadays feel that being a male virgin means something is wrong with him. I didn't question it at all. I totally accepted it as a reader. I also LOVED that there is absolutely NO mention of past women. In one instance, Kaylee asked.."did you ever court any women?" his answer.... "no." That was it! I Loved it!!! There was no jealousy of ex girlfriends or other women who wanted him or lusted after him. WELL DONE!!! A breath of fresh air!

There was however a question Kaylee asked Blue Hawk about having multiple wives. She asked if his people have more than one wife. He said yes. And basically it was said he only wanted her, and she said she didn't want to share him. He goes on to explain how she could, if she wanted, have more than one husband (not that he'd want it, it was just an explaination of his people's customs). Needless to say, they only wanted each other.

I started getting anxiety when Kaylee (heroine) thought Blue Hawk was dead and decided to go back home with the army. But fear not! All works out in the end. I wont give out too much, so as to not ruin it for you, but no worries. Trust me.

What brought down the stars for me was a combination of things. First, much of the book has the heroine acting exactly as I would have until about 65%. Until she wanted to go home. I couldn't fault her for wanting to make sure her mother was ok, but part of me was hoping they would stay with his tribe. They didn't. In truth, it was impossible, and the H & h knew that. It would have been a life of constant war for Blue Hawk, and as much as I wanted them to go back to the indians, it could have meant him being killed in a fight. So I guess I really can't lower a star because of this, it was logical for them to stay in the "white world." But I HAD to lower a half a star for how quickly the townspeople changed from lynching Blue Hawk to accepting him. It was too fast. I'm glad it was fast and that they did accept him, but it felt unrealistic. I also felt the heroine whimped out by giving into the sherriff. I wanted them to run off together, back to his tribe after escaping him the first time.

Well.. it all worked out in the end anyway.

On a technical note, the story has lots of wonderful history that is interlaced with the story as to not sound like a history lesson. I loved it but others may not. The pace was slow and steady up until about 90% and then we get slammed with all sorts of emotional issues that literally get resolved by the near end. The conflict was pretty good, mild at times but enough to keep me interested.

The epilogue was ok. I would have rather have had a few more chapters than this summary crammed full of what happened 2 years later. All good things! Happiness, babies.. etc.. but I still left this read with such sorrow about how Kaylee and Blue Hawks children will not be raised in indian fashion. The loss of his culture just weighed heavy on my heart, just as it did for him.
But logically he knew the world was changing and his children would have a better life raised in the white world.

Overall I loved this book, I would definately would recommend and will look into more of this authors work.

Nice, light read

Lakota Love Song is the first of its genre I've ever indulged in, but for the exceptional e-book price ($1.99), I felt adventurous enough to give it a try.

Baker does her homework and it shows in this book as she makes the effort to expose the reader to Lakota culture in a way that's interesting and enlightening. Her character, Blue Hawk, is brave, noble, amiable, and easy to fall in love with.

There was a lull in the middle of the book where the love scenes grew redundant and the pace slowed tremendously, but when you reach the final few chapters you'll feel it was worth the push as the climax will leave you on the edge of your seat until the final page.

I would recommend it for western lovers who are looking for an light, easy romance to read.
